Presented by the Wertheim School of Music, the FIU Latin American Choral Festival, titled "Our Voices, Our Roots," is a four-day celebration of Latin American choral music. It takes place from April 18-21, 2024 at the Wertheim School of Music and Comber Hall at the Church of the Little Flower in Coral Gables. The festival aims to showcase the rich and diverse choral repertoire of Latin America from the 20th and 21st centuries while uplifting and highlighting Latin American choral music and musicians.

Concert 1: Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 7:30PM
Church of the Little Flower, Comber Hall

The opening concert sets the tone for the festival with performances ranging from traditional Spanish Mass to contemporary secular music representative of Latin America and the Caribbean. It features the FIU University Singers alongside guest choirs, The Children’s Voice Chorus and Cusib Global, reflecting a diverse range of ages and musical styles. The choirs will end with the hope that we continue to make and share the traditions of Latin American choral music for years to come.

 

Concert 2 (Featured Choirs' Concert): Friday, April 19, 2024 at 7:30PM
The Wertheim, Concert Hall

Prepare yourself for a captivating evening as four remarkable choirs take to the stage, each bringing its own unique flair to the vibrant tapestry of Latin American music. From the stirring harmonies of the FIU Concert Choir to the rhythmic prowess of Amazonia and the captivating melodies of Encantus, alongside the soulful performances of Cusib Global, immerse yourself in an evening of cultural celebration!

 

Concert 3 (Cantata Criolla): Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 7:30PM

Featured as the centerpiece of the festival, Cantata Criolla stands as a musical masterpiece that embodies the rich cultural tapestry of Venezuela and the broader Latin American heritage. This iconic work seamlessly intertwines folk rhythms with modern Western musicality, serving as a powerful symbol of our roots and origins amidst the diverse influences of the modern world. Led by conductor Javier Mendoza, experience the captivating performances of all featured choirs alongside the FIU Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable musical experience.
