This Friday, the NeighborhoodHELP Outreach Team in partnership with HWCOM Behavioral Health and our Community Partner, Children’s Bereavement Center, is hosting our Amara’s Guiding Light -2nd Annual Amara's Day of Kindness Workshop and Panel DiscussionAmara’s Guiding Light is an initiative through which we honor the life of Amara Rodriguez-Miyares who is a former member of our NeighborhoodHELP Outreach Team. This initiative is aimed at increasing awareness of domestic violence through community engagement and acts of service.

Throughout the day, we also encourage everyone to do acts of kindness in honor of Amara and post pictures or posts about them using the hashtag: #AmarasDayofKindness.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
