Jian Kang, Ph.D., is a professor and associate chair for research in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Kang specializes in developing statistical methods for complex biomedical data, focusing on Bayesian methods and machine learning for imaging, genomics, and precision medicine. An elected fellow of the American Statistical Association, he has co-authored more than 140 publications and received several prestigious honors, including the ICSA President’s Citation Award in 2024 and the IBS Best Paper Award in 2022.

Kang earned his doctorate in biostatistics from the University of Michigan in 2011 and was a faculty member at Emory University from 2011 to 2015.
