Florida International University (FIU)’s Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy, the Social Science Research Council, and the Atlantic Council Global China Hub will host the inaugural Africa-Americas Forum on China. The conference will take place October 12-13, 2023 at the FIU Modesto Maidique campus, Tamiami Hall, in Miami, Florida.

For years, countries in the Global South have repeatedly indicated their desire to strike their own path between the U.S. and China in this era of strategic competition. Caribbean and Latin American countries are deepening their relationships with African counterparts to learn best practices on how to maximize economic benefits from China and minimize the potential threats to their sovereignty.

As the 10th anniversary of China’s Belt and Road Initiative approaches in September 2023, we have organized a two-day convening where African, Latin American, and Caribbean experts will share best practices on how to develop a robust and healthy relationship with China in the following four topics:

1. Trade and Investment

2. Peacekeeping, Security, and Humanitarian Assistance

3. Media and Cultural Exchanges

4. Technology and Cybersecurity
