Americas’ Network for Chronic Disease Surveillance (AMNET)

The Americas’ Network for Chronic Disease Surveillance (AMNET) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that has been promoting chronic disease surveillance, knowledge translation into action, and public health capacity building in the Region of the Americas (North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean) for over 20 years. Additionally, it fosters the integration of governmental and non-governmental organizations to promote the training of health personnel in the surveillance, control, and prevention of chronic diseases.

AMNET’s objectives are the following:

- Develop and maintain contact with key individuals and organizations that work or are interested in the surveillance of non-communicable chronic diseases and other public health surveillance activities such as health education, health promotion, and the prevention and control of chronic diseases and their risk factors in the Americas and the Caribbean;
- Facilitate the exchange of knowledge, the collection, organization, and dissemination of scientific information and experiences regarding the surveillance, prevention, and control of chronic diseases and their risk factors;
- Advocate for the surveillance, prevention, and control of chronic diseases and their risk factors in the Americas and the Caribbean;
- Promote and support training in surveillance, prevention, and control techniques for chronic diseases;
- Channel resources and provide technical assistance in research projects and surveillance programs aimed at the prevention and control of chronic disease risk factors;
- Facilitate the coordination of efforts to implement strategies aimed at preventing or mitigating the impact of chronic diseases and their risk factors, as well as promoting the development of surveillance activities and the evaluation of proposed surveillance activities;
- Promote processes for the dissemination and communication of research activities related to the surveillance, prevention, and control of chronic diseases, and support exchanges with national and international academic peers to strengthen academic and scientific communities;
- Advise, lead, and participate in the monitoring and/or accreditation processes of national programs for the surveillance, prevention, and control of chronic diseases.
