The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University, and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science will host a free, virtual, one-day international symposium “Arsenic: from Environment to Medicine” on Wednesday, November 9, 2021.

We welcome keynote speaker Satoru Ishikawa of the Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences, National Agricultural and Food Research Organization (NARO), Tsukuba, Japan, and additional speakers from Japan and FIU.

Through the generous sponsorship of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), this virtual symposium is free. JSPS officers will describe their programs to support collaboration between Japanese and American researchers.

Space is limited to the first 200 registrants. A registration link will be available soon.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
