MBUS Art Talk with Mike Calway-Fagen

 

Main Gallery, Tuesday, February 20, 2020 – 6:30-8:00

Mike Calway-Fagen is an artist, writer, curator, and educator based in Chattanooga, TN. He received his BFA from the University of Tennessee, an MFA from the University of California, San Diego, and also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Recent solo exhibitions include the University of Arkansas, the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, Ditch Projects in Oregon, and the Soo Visual Arts Center in Minneapolis. Recently his work has been included in group exhibitions at HORSE AND PONY in Berlin, MASS Gallery in Austin, TX, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, LAXArt in Los Angeles, and NurtureArt in Brooklyn. Calway-Fagen has attended residencies at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA, and Sculpture Space in Utica, NY, among others. In the past years Calway-Fagen has lectured at a number of institutions including, Yale University, the Universities of California, Tennessee, North Georgia, Oregon, Cincinnati, Alabama, Georgia, Nevada, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Bowdoin College, Auburn, The Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Brigham Young University and others. His recent curatorial projects include Fluctuating Meridians, 52 Hertz Whale, and Melt My Heart But Spare My Soul, all realized through Mike’s role as Curator at Stove Works, a developing nonprofit art center in Chattanooga. Recent projects curated independently include Blue In The Face, Sounds Like, State Park and First Person in Gainesville, FL, Indianapolis, IN, San Diego, CA and Nashville, TN respectively.
