About this Event
11200 SW 8th ST, Academic Health Center 2, Miami, Florida 33199
https://medicine.fiu.edu/research/wertheim-lectureship-series/Paul Alan Wetter, M.D., is a physician, surgeon and innovator known for his pioneering work in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He performed some of the earliest advanced laparoscopic procedures in North America and has led efforts to advance surgical education, technology and patient safety worldwide.
Dr. Wetter founded the Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons and now serves as its chairman emeritus. He is a clinical professor emeritus at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Wetter and Janis Chinnock Wetter recently donated a 2,536-square-foot medical office suite located across from the emergency room at Baptist Health South Miami Hospital. With this space, the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine plans to launch a brick-and-mortar pilot facility for our community-engaged Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP program. The facility will serve as a hub for care coordination, connecting patients with services and resources, while also providing a safe setting for essential support services, such as behavioral health sessions and clinical rotation opportunities for our medical students and residents.
Lunch will be provided.
This event is part of the Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Leadership Lecture Series.
