ArtWeek2018: Daniel Chimowitz: Walking Canvases

This is a past event.

Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 10:00am to 5:00pm

Jewish Museum of Florida 301 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach 33139

Daniel Chimowitz is an internationally renowned artist and fashion designer. He creates walking canvases of painted images on hand-sewn as well as up-cycled clothing, essentially combining fine art with the excitement of the fashion industry. Chimowitz has shown his designs in Paris, London, Beijing, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Miami and worked with famed designer Patricia Field. In his textiles, colors are combined with the punk DIY fashion of London, studs from Spain and simplistic triangles and circles of the Tlingit. There is no single focal point on his textiles, the fabric is woven with a story for the reader to get lost within.

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
