The main, re-occurring activities of the AERC are its workshops, congressional briefings, and business meetings, which typically take place in the fall in Washington D.C.  For a number of years, we have co-partnered with AIBS in hosting communications workshops and Hill briefings.  The latter usually take place in the Capitol Building, the Rayburn House Office building, or one of the Senate office buildings.  AERC has also scheduled its annual meeting in conjunction with events hosted by one of our member institutions, including a recent workshop held at the Savannah River Ecology Lab (SREL) on “Integrating Ecosystem Research into the Nuclear Age”.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
