Daniel Ortega’s regime has dismantled the basic guarantees of a fair electoral process: disqualifying opposition parties and candidates, exercising absolute control over the Supreme Electoral Council, repressing the independent press, and persecuting activists and human rights defenders.

Así se vota en Nicaragua is a publication by Transparencia Electoral, written by Nicaraguan political scientist José Antonio Peraza. The study provides an in-depth examination of the dynamics of the Nicaraguan electoral process, challenges the regime’s official narrative, and offers a critical analysis of the institutional, regulatory, and practical mechanisms used to manipulate the will of the people and maintain power without real competition.
