The FIU Jack D. Gordon Institute of Public Policy in partnership with the University of Texas at El Paso invites you to attend the UTEP-FIU Borderland Security Conference featuring FIU experts and distinguished presenters who will explore critical issues shaping U.S.-Mexico relations today.

FIU panelists include:

  • Brian Fonseca, Director, Jack D. Gordon Institute
  • Frank O. Mora, Senior Research Scientist
  • Mark B. Rosenberg, Senior Fellow
  • Inga Kristina Trauthig, Research Professor

The discussion will address emerging challenges and opportunities in the bilateral relationship, with a special focus on the role of emerging technologies, such as drones, artificial intelligence, and cyber tools, and how they are increasingly leveraged by transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) and other non-state actors in the region.

This important conversation will offer key insights into regional security dynamics and technological innovation.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
