Can Federal Courts Issue Nationwide Injunctions?

This is a past event.

Monday, October 15, 2018 at 12:30pm to 2:00pm

RDB - Rafael Diaz-Balart Law Building, Large Courtroom
11200 SW 8th ST 33199, Rafael Diaz-Balart Law Bldg, Miami, Florida 33199

Should a single federal district judge be able to enjoin all enforcement of a statute or regulation against all people? Can an injunction against enforcement be effective if only applied to a specific party? This issue has arisen in a series of cases challenging the
constitutionality of federal immigration laws and regulations. How far should a district court's authority reach? How far does it need to reach? What limits are there on this authority?

This issue will be debated by FIU Law Professor Howard M. Wasserman and American University's Professor Amanda Frost. FIU Law Professor Ediberto Roman will moderate.

Lunch will be served.
