Since the 21st century China´s socioeconomic presence in Latin America and the Caribbean has increased substantially in all imaginable fields. Based on a group of concepts, the presentation will focus on Chinese infrastructure projects in the region in terms of their number, amount, employment, as well as on their qualitative impact on Latin America and the Caribbean, both internally as well as in their relationship to the US.

 

Guest Speaker:

 

Dr. Enrique Dussel Peters is a professor at the Graduate School of Economics, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He serves as coordinator of the Center for Chinese-Mexican Studies at UNAM, as well as coordinator of the Academic Network of Latin America and the Caribbean on China. He is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, and author of a number of chapters and books on political economy, industrial organization, development, processes of segments of global value chains, and the socioeconomic relationship between Latin America and Caribbean and China. He has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Notre Dame.
