COASTAL SOLUTIONS WORKSHOP: Modeling, Prediction, and Sensor Networks for Coastal Flooding in the US East Coast

DATE/TIME: July 23 and 27, 2020, 9AM-12PM

In recent years, a growing number of projects are focusing on the design and implementation of integrated observing and modeling systems through sustained, active partnership with coastal communities facing more frequent and severe flooding. In an effort to coordinate and accelerate these parallel research efforts, and their translation into tangible solutions for community stakeholders, this workshop will provide a forum to identify synergies, best practices, and opportunities for greater collaboration amongst these researchers.

Dr. Jayantha Obeysekera of the FIU Institute of Environment's Sea Level Solutions Center will be presenting in the first session of the workshop. His talk is entitled "Climate Science Support to Stakeholders". See below for more information about session 1:

SESSION #1: Landscape of Efforts in Coastal Flooding Monitoring & Prediction

Thursday, July 23, 2020, 9:00AM - 12:00 PM ET

Case studies (10 min presentations) of ongoing efforts or projects that actively engage stakeholders at the city, county, and/or state level in co-designing and deploying observing and modeling frameworks for coastal flooding along the US east coast. By “efforts” we include any research (funded or not funded) where researchers are working with stakeholders on the “frontline” trying to develop core service (e.g. modeling and observing networks) and solutions tools (e.g. visualization apps).
