Consuelo Naranjo Orovio and Miguel Ángel Puig-Samper, this volume examines the relations between colonialism and racism in various fields, such as medicine, literature, the natural sciences, theology, the history of slavery, visual culture, gender studies, and miscegenation. It proposes to show how the ideological resources of social control and racial superiority were built and functioned, along with resistance to discrimination and stigmatization of Afro-descendants.
