In the Middle: The Traditions We Keep reflects on the small moments that take root in our lives and, over time, become traditions. Some are planned; others arrive unexpectedly—an ordinary gesture, a familiar phrase, or a piece of music that lingers long enough to shape who we are.

Anchored by Dale Trumbore’s In the Middle and paired with works by both contemporary and historical composers, the program traces how choral music gives form to the everyday patterns that define us. Led by FIU Concert Choir director Dr. Erryn Millard and FIU University Singers director Dr. Alicia Romero-Sardiñas, the performance reminds us, as the Beatles observed, that “life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
