oin us for the Cumbre Global sobre Desinformación / Global Summit on Disinformation, taking place May 27–28, 2026. This free, fully online event—co-sponsored by the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC)—will bring together journalists, researchers, fact-checkers, academics, technologists, government representatives, and civil society organizations to examine the global impact of disinformation and strengthen collaborative strategies to address it.

Organized by the Inter American Press Association, Proyecto Desconfío (Argentina), and Fundación para el Periodismo (Bolivia), the Summit will be held in a trilingual format (Spanish, English, and Portuguese), with simultaneous interpretation available to participants worldwide.

Since its launch in 2021, the Summit has become a leading international forum for sharing best practices and advancing solutions to protect information integrity. Past editions have explored issues such as declining trust in journalism, evolving disinformation patterns, artificial intelligence, the sustainability of independent media, and civic-focused technologies.

The 2026 edition will build on this momentum with a renewed agenda addressing the most pressing current trends. Over two days, participants will engage in panels, keynote discussions, workshops, demonstrations, and innovation roundtables designed to foster dialogue and actionable solutions on a global scale.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
