This session aims to educate participants about the linguistic human rights (Skuttnab-Kangas, 2006) of Haitian immigrants, increase awareness of language-related barriers, and strengthen and discuss ways our program assists Haitian immigrants in building capacity to advocate for equitable access to services, education, healthcare, employment, and justice systems. We will also share sample of materials produced to support the self-advocacy. 

Guest Speaker: Marie-Lily Cerat, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Global Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Brooklyn College of CUNY and Director of the CUNY Haitian Studies Institute.
