A spoken word program set against Spears’ powerful music, “Destination Retrograde” explores the opera’s tragic story of a love affair between two young men at the height of the Red and Lavender Scares in the 1950s while highlighting the underlying and heartbreakingly timely topics of disinformation, the relationship between law and morality, and the dangers of a tyranny of the majority.
