Abstract

The   Best   Management   Practices (BMP)  program  in  the  Everglades  Agricultural Area (EAA) is recognized globally as one of the most successful large-scale initiatives for controlling non-point source pollution. Mandated under Everglades Rule Chapter 40E- 63, the program has consistently outperformed expectations;  EAA  farmers  have  achieved  an average long-term phosphorus reduction of 57%  since  the  program’s  inception  in  1996- more than double the 25% statutory requirement. This presentation highlights critical research  conducted  by  UF/IFAS,  exploring  the drivers   behind   the   program's  success key lessons  learned from decades of implementation, and the emerging challenges in a dynamic agricultural landscape.
