What to do?

  • Come searching for wild plants and animals in the FIU Nature Preserve
  • Share photos of your amazing encounters via the iNaturalist(https://www.inaturalist.org) citizen science app
  • Your photos on iNatwill help us document critical ecological interactions in the preserve and grow our knowledge about campus biodiversity.

Do you know?

  • The FIU Nature Preserve holds a small piece of pine rockland–our globally imperiled ecosystem –as well as a beautiful tropical hardwood hammock.
  • The many native plants in the Preserve increase the chance that amazing native bees, butterflies and birds can find and transport seeds and pollen across our campus and on to other pine rockland fragments.

Please go at your own convenience, wear a mask, and practice social distancing.  See the Panthers Protecting Panthers repopulation guidelines for additional information.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
