DESCRIPTION:EHS Candidate Visit | Dr. Jagadeesh Puvvula: Presentation and Q
&A "Life-Course Exposure to Environmental Hazards and Adverse Neurodevelop
mental Outcomes"\n\nDr. Jagadeesh Puvvula is an environmental epidemiologi
st who evaluates mechanistic associations between life-course environmenta
l exposures and birth/neurodevelopmental outcomes. He primarily works on e
 xposures to endocrine-disrupting chemical mixtures\, notably phthalates\,
polybrominated diphenyl ethers\, and organophosphate esters. At FIU – EH
S\, he envisions building a research program focused on the environmental
exposome and precision environmental health. In his presentation\, Dr. Puvv
ula will discuss his research on environmental exposures and early-life ou
tcomes. His work spans a broad range of environmental exposures\, from sat
ellite-derived air pollutants to environmental chemical biomarkers. These
exposures include air pollutants (PAHs and toxic metals)\, forever chemica
ls (PFAS)\, flame retardants (PBDEs and OPEs)\, industrial chemicals (PCBs
)\, chemicals found in consumer products (phthalates\, phenols\, and parab
ens)\, and pesticides (organochlorines and organophosphates). He uses biol
 ogical intermediates—including the epigenome\, transcriptome\, proteome\
, metabolome\, and imaging markers—to investigate the biological mechani
sms underlying exposure-response associations. He is also expanding his re
search to incorporate single-nucleus approaches to better understand these
mechanisms at the cellular level. Dr. Puvvula envisions FIU-EHS as an ide
al environment in which to build an independent\, extramurally funded rese
arch program integrating the external exposome\, chemical biomarkers\, and
multi-omic intermediates within a precision environmental health framewor
 k\, while fostering collaborations across epidemiology\, biostatistics\, a
nd molecular biology.\n\nNeed an accommodation or accessible materials? Co
