EHS Candidate Visit | Dr. Mohammad Rahman: Presentation and Q&A "Environmental Exposures Across the Life Course and Chronic Disease Risk: A Molecular Epidemiology Approach"

Dr. Mohammad Rahman is an environmental and molecular epidemiologist who studies how environmental exposures across the life course shape the risk of chronic diseases, including cancer and cardiometabolic conditions, with a particular focus on how early-life exposures influence later-life health. He earned his doctorate in Environmental Epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and completed postdoctoral training at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and Harvard Medical School. By combining environmental and molecular epidemiology with advanced multi-omics tools, his research investigates the biological mechanisms linking environmental exposures to disease and identifies early markers of susceptibility and disease risk that can guide prevention. He aims to build an interdisciplinary research program that brings together environmental epidemiology, molecular science, and prevention-oriented research to improve population health.In his presentation, Dr. Rahman will describe his research at the intersection of environmental, perinatal, and cancer epidemiology. He will highlight molecular epidemiology studies that draw on birth cohorts, occupational populations with well-characterized exposures, and population-based nested case-control studies. These studies examine how specific exposures are associated with epigenomic, metabolomic, and immune-inflammatory changes that may contribute to disease susceptibility later in life. Dr. Rahman will also share his vision for advancing the Department of Environmental Health Sciences through an interdisciplinary molecular epidemiology program centered on two priorities: linking life-course exposures to molecular mechanisms and windows of susceptibility and translating those mechanistic insights into strategies to improve population health.
