The Hashtag is a type of metadata tag used on social media networks such as Twitter and Instagram that allows users to easily find messages with a specific theme or content.
The exhibition title #ForTheCulture is to demonstrate clear intentionality while allowing these works to be placed within broader conversations about race and identity.
The featured artists have created an interpretative work of what it means to “do it for the culture” which is something that is said very often in black communities in regards to taking actions that benefit the community and for posterity.
