Extraterritorial Voting and the Transnational Dimensions of the 2026 Brazilian Elections
About this Event
The Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) invites you to a lecture by Dr. Teresa Cristina Schneider Marques, Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), examining the transnational dimensions of Brazil's 2026 electoral process.
While elections are traditionally viewed as expressions of national sovereignty, contemporary electoral processes are increasingly shaped by transnational dynamics. This presentation explores two key dimensions of this phenomenon: the role of migrant communities in extraterritorial voting and the influence of transnational activist networks on electoral processes.
Drawing on the case of Brazil's 2026 elections, Dr. Marques will discuss how globalization, migration, and cross-border political engagement are reshaping democratic participation and challenging conventional understandings of electoral politics.
