FIU-RCMI Proposal Development Workshop #6 - Tips and Strategies to Identify a Mentor and Establish an Effective Mentoring Relationship

Presenter: Dr. Jason Mitchell

Mentorship plays a vital role in improving science, fostering relationships, as well as in personal and professional growth. Like many relationships, being a mentor and being a mentee can be extremely rewarding. It also requires work by maintaining the connection through discussions and mutual decision-making. Understanding expectations, communication styles, goals/objectives, and preferred feedback from both sides of the mentor-mentee relationship is critical to reap the awards of mentorship. The present talk will offer practical guidance about mentorship by discussing and providing examples from both the mentor and mentee perspectives.
