Join us for an FIU-RCMI Research in Progress Series seminar, "Anti-LGBTQ Hate Crime Victimization and Reporting: A Mixed-Methods Approach". This seminar will be led by  Dr. Besiki Kutateladze.

Social science research on hate crimes against LGBTQ persons remains limited. Most of the existing hate crimes research focuses on race, uses macro-level geographic units, and relies on the official statistics which is limited due to severe underreporting. This exploratory study partially fills this vast gap in the literature by employing a mixed-methods design and relying on the intersectionality perspective to examine hate crime victimization and crime reporting among Miami’s LGBTQ Latino immigrant population.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
