FIU in Washington, D.C. is hosting an in-person event at the FIU in D.C. center, featuring higher-ed leaders and prominent thinkers who will share their insights with The Chronicle and discuss how institutions can find a path forward, even as resources remain scarce.

Research universities have long embraced a dual focus: to educate students and advance knowledge. But, these two goals often find themselves in competition with one another. How can institutions balance both their efforts to advance student success and contribute to global research?

The Chronicle brings together university leaders and prominent thinkers for an in-person event where we will explore:

  • How do university leaders and experts view the challenges facing research universities today?
  • Where do they see student-success and research efforts complementing each other?
  • How can universities balance strategic priorities, such as climbing national rankings, increasing social mobility, and increasing faculty research?

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
