The FIU Latin Jazz Ensemble presents a retrospective of Latin Jazz styles of the past 50 years. The ensemble will perform a vairety of music including Cuban percussion, the music of Jerry Gonzalez and the Fort Apache band, and will also pay tribute to the great trumpeter Woody Shaw.

The FIU Latin jazz ensemble consists of graduate and undergraduate students and is directed by Dr. Michael Eckroth. This group plays a range of styles of jazz music influenced by Afro-Caribbean rhythmic styles, Cuban folklore, and the many stylistic fusions created in Latin music hot spots such as New York City. Featuring Latin percussion and a horn section and playing mostly instrumental music, the ensemble offers a high energy take on historical Latin jazz styles The Miami New Times named the group the 'Best Latin Act" of 2020.
