Descriptions:

FIU Wertheim School of Music presents "Earthquake Relief Concert with FIU Miami Guitar Orchestra and Special Guests" to benefit the survivors of devastating earthquakes in southern Türkiye on February 6, 2023.

The effects were felt as far away as Syria, Cyprus, Greece, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Georgia, Armenia, Egypt, and Israel. With the death toll surpassing 50,000 and 1.5 million people remaining homeless in freezing conditions, Florida International University has established a planning committee for the earthquake relief efforts, joined by FIU Turkish Student Association, faculty, and staff. As part of these efforts, the FIU Wertheim School of Music is presenting an Earthquake Relief Concert directed by guitarist/composer Mesut Özgen.

Featured guest artists include Can Yıldırım, kanun; Federico Bonacossa, guitar; Sinan Çayır, piano; Vindhya Khare, piano; Saul Vera, bandola llanera and bandola cordillerana; Luciana Kube, voice/cuatro; Gabriela Esquivel, voice; Siboney Godoy, violin; Daniel Collazo, steel-string guitar; Catherin Meza, soprano; Carolina Escamilla, mezzo-soprano; and Estefanía Aslalema, mezzo-soprano.
