Our festival has a rich legacy of musical curiosity, presenting new and rarely heard works that we hope you’ll enjoy. We continually strive to offer programming that deepens our engagement with the South Florida community, reaffirms our commitment to push for diversity, and nurtures the next generation of musicians through meaningful collaborations and partnerships.

Jazz Party Kickoff with Grammy Winner Delfeayo Marsalis

Grammy award-winning trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis of the legendary Marsalis family is opening the FIU Music Festival for a New Orleans-Style Jazz party not to be missed! He will join our very own FIU Faculty Jazz Quartet and FIU Jazz Big Band for a party like no other, featuring music from his latest album, Jazz Party. Jazz Party embodies the ebullient and cheerful characteristics of the New Orleans community.

 

Opera Gala Concert with Santa Fe Opera Stars

Santa Fe & Miami musicians will sweep you off your feet with an evening of Italian opera composers! We are proud to partner with famed #1 Summer Opera Festival in the country, Santa Fe Opera, for an enchanted evening of arias, choruses, and hors d’oeuvres.

Angels and Devils: Kaufman & Stravinsky

This special evening features two emotional works by composers Fredrick Kaufman (Jacob’s Wrestling with the Angel) and Igor Stavinsky (“L’Histoire du soldat”) that takes us on a journey in which we must face our angels and demons, leading to an inevitable state of grace or downfall.

 

Virtuoso Organist Alcee Chriss

First-prize and Bach prize winner at the 2017 Canadian International Organ Competition, Alcee Chriss III is widely regarded as one of the leading young organists of our time. He was a featured star in the PBS documentary, Pipe Dreams (2019).

 

All-Brahms: From The Wertheim to New World, Night One

You’re invited to take a musical dive into the world of Johannes Brahms! To honor the man and the musician, FIU 's Artist-in-Residence Ensemble, the Amernet String Quartet, together with violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, pianist Anton Nel, and cellist Bion Tsang, will perform a two-night chamber music extravaganza of duos, quartets, quintets, and sextets. You can hear the timelessness of Brahms’s compositions on November 4 at The Wertheim Performing Arts Center at FIU and again on November 5 at the New World Center, with each night offering a different listening experience.

NY-Based International Contemporary Ensemble

Described as “America’s foremost new-music group” (The New Yorker), the Ensemble has become a leading force in new music throughout the last 20 years, having premiered over 1,000 works and having been a vehicle for the workshop and performance of thousands of works by student composers across the U.S including our own FIU students for this special collaboration.
