The FIU Opera Theater will present two short operas by prominent British composers of the early 20th-century: Gustav Holst’s, Savitri and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Riders to the Sea.

The operas depict the tragic, yet transformative experiences of two deeply spiritual women who rely on their faith to confront Death and the loss of loved ones. Savitri is a musical setting of an episode in the ancient Hindu epic, Mahabharata. Riders to the Sea is a setting of the short play by Irish playwright, J. M. Synge.

Both operas will be directed by Robert B. Dundas, Associate Professor of Voice, and accompanied by Music Director, Juvenal Correa-Salas.
