Join the students of the FIU Opera Workshop as they perform Henry Purcell's monumental Baroque opera, Dido & Aeneas. Eager to destroy Carthage, an evil sorceress plots to end the engagement of the Carthaginian queen, Dido, to the Trojan hero, Aeneas. Tricked into believing that the gods want him to leave Carthage and found the city of Rome, Aeneas is forced to abandon Dido. Recognizing that she cannot live with the shame and the sorrow, or continue leading her people, Dido accepts her deadly fate. Don’t miss this heartbreaking tale of love and loyalty based on Book IV of Virgil’s Aeneid. The production will be staged by the Director of the FIU Opera Workshop, Robert B. Dundas, and accompanied by the FIU Collegium, conducted by Juvenal Correa-Salas.
