Handel in Arcadia: An Evening of Dramatic Solo Cantatas.

The FIU Opera Theater in collaboration with the FIU Collegium Musicum present a program of cantatas commissioned by members of the Academy of the Arcadians during the composer's sojourn in Rome.

Although composed in his early 20s, these works reveal Handel's genius for dramatic vocal writing. The lyricism and beauty of his later operas are apparent in these rarely performed secular cantatas. The works to be presented are "Armida abbandonata;" O lucenti, o sereni occhi;" and "Aminta e Fillide."

The works will be fully staged by the Director of FIU Opera Theater, Robert B. Dundas, and performed in Italian with English supertitles. The entire production will be conducted by Juvenal Correa-Salas, the director of the FIU Musicum Collegium.
