Journalism today demands more than strong reporting skills—it requires strategic thinking about how stories are discovered and move through the world. Drawing on a career spent at the intersection of journalism and technology, the talk traces the industry’s shift from print to digital, from web to social, and into audio, video, and now AI—highlighting how each transition reshaped not just storytelling, but distribution, audience behavior, and trust. The session shares practical ways to think about learning, growth, and adaptability as communication continues to evolve.

Marian Chia-Ming Liu, MBA—Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and media leader with experience at The Washington Post, CNN, and major national newsrooms.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
