DESCRIPTION:In 1995\, Florida International University commissioned Cuban c
 omposer Aurelio de la Vega (1925-2022) to write Transparent Songs (Cancion
 es transparentes)\, a piece honoring the memory of Jose Marti (1853-1895) 
 in the centennial of his death. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of th
 e premiere of that piece at FIU and the 100th anniversary of the composer'
 s birth\, this lecture will analyze Canciones transparentes and its relati
 onship to the five poems by Marti on which it is based. How a creative dia
 logue is established between a 20th-century classical composer and the 19t
 h-century hero and poet is the challenge and objective of this timely even
 t. \n\nThis event is free and open to the public. It will be held in Spani
