Depression is very common in teens. In fact, 1 in 5 teen girls and 1 in 14 teen boys report experiencing depression in the past year alone. Depression may look and feel different among teens--one teen may appear sad, a second teen may appear bored, a third teen may appear irritated, and a fourth teen may not appear different from their usual selves at all! Some symptoms of depression, including thoughts of suicide, cannot be seen by others, so depression may go unnoticed in teens.

This webinar will address what the symptoms of depression are and how to recognize them in teens. We will also discuss how you can look after your own and your teen’s mental health and present a screening for suicidal ideation that anyone can use.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
