Hoz y Cruz documents the clash between the Marxist cosmovision and the Christian ethic in Socialist Cuba, including the official religious persecution by the State as well as the tenacious resistance of many Christians, Evangelicals in particular. The book clearly illustrates the importance of civil society and civil resistance in the defense of first-generation rights, and is a testimony of the power of the human spirit over an all-powerful totalitarian State. This book was completed during Suárez´ tenure as a Mellon Fellow at FIU´s Institute for Cuban Studies in the Spring of 2025.
