I Am A Man: A Declaration on Baldwin

On this February iWitness: Lunch Break, we honor, celebrate and meditate on James Baldwin through the eyes of those in Memphis in 1968. We uplift and honor all the men who went on strike and fought for their rights, and of those who had a dream for a better day.  We insist on dignity and humanity, in 1968 and 2025 and all the tomorrows, in word and in action, no matter the attempts at intimidation.

Join us with world-renown jazz pianist Danny Mixon, Betsy Writers' Room Artist-in-Residence, will be there as we move through images and words and tunes that remind us of Black Excellence and the humanity that exists in us all.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
