We are pleased to invite you to the next iWitness LunchBreak Global Borderless Caribbean Series on January 17 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This session will explore the theme “The Soul of Freedom.”

We are thrilled to welcome two distinguished guests for a thought-provoking discussion:

  • David Lawrence Jr., former publisher of the Miami Herald and founder of The Children’s Movement of Florida
  • Dr. Mike Heithaus, Executive Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education at FIU, Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and Vice Provost for BBC and Environmental Sustainability

We will also be joined by the powerful movement of Michelle Grant Murray. This event will provide an opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate and embrace hope.

We hope to see you on January 17, 2025, at the Lee Caplin School of Journalism + Media at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus in the Atrium of AC II.

This event is sponsored by the iWitness: IPC Institute of Visual Journalism at FIU, the Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab-FIU, Iris Photo Collective, Kimberly Green LACC, AADS-FIU, Humanities Edge, Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance and FIU's Lee Caplin School of Journalism + Media.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
