 ision has been made out of an abundance of caution with the health and wel
 l-being of our guests and community in mind. For updates and additional in

 safe.\n\n \n\nThe School of Music is proud to present the 2020 FIU Latin A
 merican Choral Festival\, an outreach initiative designed to strengthen ti
 es between FIU\, the Latin American music community\, and MDCPS by offerin
 g educational and performance opportunities to young high school singers. 
 This year's festival theme\, "A World of Songs for the Planet/Un Mundo de 
 cantos para el Planeta\," aims to create environmental awareness through t
 he power of creativity\, engaging education\, and choral music. \n\nThe fe
 stival will culminate in two evening performances held on April 21 - 22 at
  the Wertheim Performing Arts Center. Under the guidance of renowned Venez
 uelan conductor and FIU faculty member\, Maria Guinand\, the FIU choirs an
 d guest ensembles will present the most representative and important works
  of the extensive Latin American choral repertoire of the 20th and 21st ce

 Venezuelan conductor and FIU faculty member\, Maria Guinand.\n\n \n\n \n\n
 Maria Guinand originally hails from Venezuela where she is the Artistic Di
 rector of Schola Cantorum of Venezuela and conducts choral projects throug
 hout Latin America\, Europe\, the United States\, and Asia. Renowned as an
  authentic interpreter and trainer of Latin American choral music of the 2
 0th and 21st centuries\, she is a recipient of the Helmuth Rilling Preis (
 2009)\, the Robert Edler Preis für Chormusik (2000)\, and the Kulturpreis
  of the InterNationes Foundation (1998)\, three of the most distinguished 
 prizes in choral music conducting. Maria Guinand's artist residency is sup
 ported and managed by Amazonia Music Corp. \n\n \n\nAmazonia Vocal Ensembl
 e was founded in 2007 by conductor/composer Dr. Cristian Grases currently 
 conductor of the USC Thornton Concert Choir at the University of Southern 
 California. AVE made its debut on November 30th of that year at St. Domini
 c’s Catholic Church in Miami\, Florida. The ensemble boasts a diverse br
 eadth of repertoire\, though it specializes in contemporary Latin American
  Music as well as original arrangements of Latin American folk/popular son
 gs in English\, Spanish\, Quechua\, Portuguese\, Papiamento among others.
