DESCRIPTION:Join us for National Poetry Month as we celebrate selected read
 ings from the Latino Poetry: The Library of America Anthology and original 
 works by undergraduate poets Maizie Montoya\, Marina Ramil\, Matthew Torres
 \, and Ana Zapata.\n\n \n\nDistinguished Professor of English\, Denise Duha
 mel\, will lead an engaging discussion on the themes\, styles\, and histori
 cal contexts of these powerful poems. The afternoon will also provide oppor
 tunities for networking and connecting with fellow poetry enthusiasts over 
 refreshments. Additionally\, you can get creative with our online poetry bo
 ard\, where you can craft and share poems in both Spanish and English in re
 al-time. Please RSVP!\n\n \n\nAbout the Moderator\n\nProfessor Duhamel earn
 ed her MFA at Sarah Lawrence College and specializes in Poetry. She regular
 ly teaches Poetic Techniques\, Poetry Writing\, Editing and Publishing\, an
 d Advanced Poetry Writing. Her most recent books of poetry are Pink Lady\; 
 Second Story\; Scald\; and Blowout\, which was a finalist for the National 
 Book Critics Circle Award. Her other titles include Ka-Ching!\; Two and Two
 \; Queen for a Day: Selected and New Poems\; The Star-Spangled Banner\; and
  Kinky. She and the late Maureen Seaton co-authored four poetry collections
 \, the most recent of which is CAPRICE (Collaborations: Collected\, Uncolle
 cted\, and New). Her collaboration with FIU Professor Julie Marie Wade\, Th
 e Unrhymables: Collaborations in Prose\, was published by Noctuary Press in
  2019. She is a recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and
  the National Endowment for the Arts. She served as the guest editor for Th
 e Best American Poetry 2013.\n\n \n\nThis program is presented as part of L
 atino Poetry: Places We Call Home\, a major public humanities initiative ta
 king place across the nation in 2024 and 2025\, directed by Library of Amer
 ica and funded with generous support from the National Endowment for the Hu
 manities and Emerson Collective.
