Learning-centered teaching strategies focus on instructors as facilitators of learning, rather than providers of knowledge. Research shows that when learning-centered approaches to teaching and curriculum are used, "they promote a different, deeper, and better kind of learning” (Weimer, 2013). During this workshop participants will:

  • Understand key research findings related to learning processes and their implications for classroom instruction
  • Define active learning, collaborative learning, and inquiry-based learning, and be able to describe classroom learning activities for each pedagogical approach
  • Apply to understand of learning processes and forms of learning-centered teaching to course design
