Abstract:  Among all left-invariant Riemannian metrics on a given Lie group, is there one whose isometry group contains that of all others?  We'll present the current state of knowledge on this question for solvable Lie groups along with some applications to the uniqueness of Ricci soliton metrics on solvmanifolds.
