Gender nonconforming people have always existed and we should learn about it, together, and do so by centering the voices of trans-identified, gender nonconforming, and non-binary artists, theorists, and writers.

The result is CHUE's first program of the year, “Non-Binary: An Exploration of the Gender Revolution through the Arts & Humanities” to be held on Tuesday 28 September at 4:00pm EST on Zoom, co-sponsored by our friends in the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, Humanities Edge, and the Pride Center.

The program is pretty special and includes legendary Trans Studies scholar, filmmaker, and theorist Susan Stryker (Mills), acclaimed poet Paul Tran (Stanford), Indigenous Studies scholar Kai Pyle (Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), and the Director of FIU Pride Center, Erica Friedman.

To join the conversation, login to Zoom here or watch our Facebook Simulcast at @centerforhumanitiesfiu on Tuesday 28 September at 4:00pm EST / 1:00pm Pacific.

“Nonbinary” is free and open to all people in all time zones, so feel free to forward this message far and wide.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
