As part of our weeklong Juneteenth Celebration, FIU will be hosting the third annual Nova Star Juneteenth Scholarship Competition Show on June 12, 2024, from 6:30PM - 10PM at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center (MMC).

This competition showcases FIU’s Nova Court: students who exemplify leadership qualities, self-confidence, and a commitment to their FIU community and beyond. The contest awards over $8,250 in scholarships to the contestants, including $3,000 to the top winner. Contestants compete in categories such as FIU spirit, talent, Q & A session, and a short speech on an issue they are passionate about.

Pre-show begins at 5:30PM for live music, vendors, refreshments from the Bartender's Guild, and photo booth fun! Come out and support our scholarship contestants and help fund scholarships for underrepresented students! Get your tickets at go.fiu.edu/novastartix

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
