Dr. Mireya Mayor is the director of the Exploration and Science Communication Initiative, which connects FIU experts with the community. She is an anthropologist, author, National Geographic Explorer, National Science Foundation Fellow, and Fulbright Scholar who has spent most of her career reporting on wildlife and habitat loss while advocating for solutions to the alarming trends. She is also a twice-Emmy-nominated wildlife correspondent, and the author of Pink Boots and a Machete: My Journey from NFL Cheerleader to National Geographic Explorer, which chronicles her unconventional career path.
About Ocean Life Series: Ocean Life Series brings renowned researchers and academics to the FL Keys to educate and inspire learners of all ages. Florida International University's Center of Coastal Oceans Research (CCOR) and the Friends of Key Largo Cultural Center invites the FL keys community to be inspired by science and connect to a place we are always yearning to learn more about - The Ocean.
