Relocating Lives After Disasters is an artistic exhibition that seeks to foster critical public dialogue and inspire collective action towards more resilient futures for the Puerto Rican municipalities of Loíza and Comerío. It is a collection of photos taken by members of these communities that are trained in PhotoVoice, a community-based participatory method. The photos are accompanied by narratives and action items, and they illuminate community members’ lived experiences of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and coastal erosion. Join us in reflecting on these poignant stories and exploring ways to contribute to the collective dreams of these vibrant communities.

This project is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) (Award #2032974 and 2032838). Any opinions, findings and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material do not necessarily reflect the views of the NSF.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
