Miami is geographically located to do business with many companies in the Afro-Hispanic Caribbean. Many Spanish- speaking companies in the United States are created by Afro- Hispanic Caribbean groups or target them as their potential clientele. Today, more than ever, adaptation of curriculum to these realities is urgent. Thus, Language Classes for Business should be adapted both to these small companies in the USA and the industries of Tourism and production of foodstuffs and crafts that are found in today's Caribbean. With this purpose in mind, this program will be focusing on elements of Afro- Cuban, Afro-Puerto Rican, and Afro-Dominican culture which are common to all of these groups.

Statement of Free Expression

FIU endorses the Florida Board of Governors' Statement of Free Expression to support and encourage full and open discourse and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives on our campuses. In addition to supporting this legal right, we view this as an integral part of our ability to deliver a high-quality academic experience for our students, engage in meaningful and productive research, and provide valuable public service. This includes fostering civil and open dialogue in support of critical thinking in and out of the classroom, including events hosted by the university.
